Open call: CHEP artist roster for murals, glass + wall art | BC Children’s Hospital centre for health complexity
BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, working with Aartplace Art Consulting & Curation and HOST Consulting, is pleased to invite artists and artist teams from British Columbia and the Yukon to apply for the CHEP Mural + Window + Wall Art Roster at the BC Children’s Hospital centre for health complexity, located in what is known colonially as Vancouver, on the traditional, unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
Through this open call, a selection panel will identify a curated roster of artists whose practices may be well suited to 11 integrated art opportunities comprising up to 50 commissions. Opportunities will include painted and digitally produced murals, glass and window applications, participatory or community-based works, and framed or wall-based artworks. Artists working across a range of media are encouraged to apply and will be supported by the art consultant throughout the process.
Artists selected for the roster will be prequalified for consideration as specific opportunities move forward, supporting a streamlined and flexible commissioning process. While inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a commission, selected artists may be invited to one or more opportunities based on the alignment of their practice, experience, and interests with the project’s needs. Can I include multiple photos on one portfolio page?
Yes. You may combine multiple photos into a single portfolio page if they help showcase the same artwork, installation, mural, or series. For example, you can include different angles, details, or views together in one collage. Each collage counts as one portfolio image/page.
Can I show multiple angles or detail shots of the same artwork?
Yes. If multiple views help communicate the work, you may present them together on a single portfolio page.
Should I focus on one type of opportunity or select multiple categories?
If you have experience across multiple types of projects, we encourage you to select all categories you would be happy to be considered for:
Digitally produced murals (design-only)
Murals (from concept to installation – paint, print, or other)
Glass/window film artworks (design-only)
Participatory or community-based murals (design-only)
Framed or wall-based artworks
Selecting all applicable categories helps us understand the full range of your experience and may increase the opportunities for which you are considered. Please only select categories that reflect your experience and that you are genuinely interested in pursuing.
Can maquettes or models created for another project be included as work samples?
Yes. Images of maquettes or models may be included as work samples. Please clearly identify them as maquettes created for another project and provide the relevant project information.
Do references need to provide written statements?
No. Applicants only need to provide the contact information for three references. Written reference letters or statements are not required.
What should I list as the location for artwork that is not installed in a public space?
You may list the location as “Private collection” if the work is not publically available. For portable or framed artwork, you may also leave the location blank.
How should images be submitted?
Images should be included in the same PDF as the written application materials. Please submit one complete PDF package rather than separate image files. The complete file must be no larger than 20 MB.
